The quiet grief of a closed door

Some endings don’t arrive with a dramatic goodbye.

There is no argument. No final conversation. No clear explanation.

Sometimes a door simply closes.

A friendship fades. A relationship changes. An opportunity disappears. A dream that once felt certain quietly slips from our hands.

What makes these moments difficult is not always the loss itself. It is the unanswered questions that remain behind the door.

We wonder what might have happened if we had said one more thing, waited a little longer, or taken a different path.

For a while, I believed every closed door was something to mourn. Now I see them differently.

Some doors close because they have fulfilled their purpose.
Some close because they were never meant to be permanent.
And some close because there is something on the other side of life waiting for us that we cannot yet see.

The grief is real. It deserves to be acknowledged. But so does the wisdom.

Not every ending is a punishment.
Not every goodbye is a failure.
Not every closed door is a rejection.

Sometimes life closes a door because we would have stayed standing in the doorway forever.

The river taught me this. Water does not argue with the bank that redirects it. It simply continues its journey.

And perhaps that is what healing asks of us — not to understand every closed door, but to trust that our path continues beyond it.

Some doors close quietly. The river keeps flowing anyway. From the River
