The Video Call Isn't Proof

This describes tactics, not individuals. We don’t name or accuse private people, and we ask you never to try to contact or confront anyone you suspect. If you’ve been targeted, start here and report to the FTC / FBI IC3.

For years, people were told that the solution to online deception was simple:

“Just video call them.”

And for a long time, that was good advice.

Today, things are different.

I’ve spoken with followers who have had video calls with people, they later discovered were not who they claimed to be. Some saw real faces. Some heard real voices. Some spent hours on FaceTime.

Yet something still didn’t add up.

The problem wasn’t the video call.

The problem was what happened after it.

A video call can prove there is a human being on the other side of the screen.

It does not prove:

  • Their name.
  • Their occupation.
  • Their relationship status.
  • Their intentions.
  • Their location.
  • Their honesty.

In other words, it proves a person exists, not that the story exists.

What I Learned

When I first started hearing stories from followers, I noticed something interesting.

The people who turned out to be genuine weren’t bothered by healthy verification.

The people who became defensive often tried to make verification feel like an attack.

A trustworthy person understands caution.

Someone with something to hide often resents it.

Verification Is a Process

Instead of asking: “Did I see their face?”

Ask: “Does their story remain consistent over time?”

Look for:

  • Consistent communication.
  • Verifiable details.
  • Willingness to answer reasonable questions.
  • A life that makes sense.
  • Actions that match words.

Trust is built from patterns, not moments.

The Real Red Flag

The biggest warning sign isn’t usually a failed video call.

It’s when someone tries to rush emotional intimacy before trust has been earned.

When someone wants deep commitment, future plans, travel arrangements, or financial help before a real foundation exists, that’s when it’s time to slow down.

Healthy relationships can survive patience.

Manipulation cannot.

A Note From Letty

I share this because I simply want people to understand that verification is more than seeing a face on a screen.

The goal isn’t to live in fear.

The goal is to keep your heart open while keeping your eyes open too.
